The Nevada County
Consolidated Fire District (NCCFD) was formed in July of
1991 by the consolidation of the Gold Flat and Bullion Fire
Protection Districts. In January of 1993,
Alta-Oaks-Sunset Fire District consolidated with NCCFD.
Next, the Watt Park Fire Protection District consolidation
took place in January of 1998. The most recent
consolidation took place in October of 2003, adding the 49er
Fire Protection District to NCCFD. The results of
these consolidations improved the service to the citizens
that reside within the fire district. Due to the large increase in emergency incidents, and the consolidation with the 49er Fire Protection District, NCCFD and the Nevada City Fire Department (NCFD) began a joint staffing operation in October 2003. NCCFD's Station 85 equipment and personnel were moved from their Nevada City Highway station around the corner to NCFD's Station 54 on Providence Mine Road. Both joint-staffing operations have dramatically reduced response times and have allowed us to provide the "excellence in emergency service" that we promise the residents within NCCFD. Today, the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District is a full-service emergency response agency. NCCFD is a combination of full-time paid staff and paid-call firefighters (PCF's), covering 143 square miles of residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas, through five service areas and 14 stations. There are five staffed District-owned stations, two jointly staffed city fire department stations, and 7 paid-call, unstaffed District-owned stations. The field staff consists of 1 Chief, 3 Battalion Chiefs (Operations, Training, Fire Marshal), 1 Paid-Call Battalion Chief, 1 Fire Prevention Officer, 6 Career Captains, 11 Career Engineers, 10 Career Firefighters, 1 Mechanic, 4 Seasonal Firefighters (Winter & Summer Terms), 14+ Paid Call Firefighters, and 6 Cadets. The office staff consists of a Finance Manager, Human Resources Administrator, District/Board Secretary, and an Operational Support Specialist. The population within the district is 32,000+ and the assessed land value is $2,831,336,778. |
