Public Education Programs

If you are interested in any of the Public Education Programs please contact Kevin Menet!

Nevada County Consolidated Fire Department is dedicated to providing many public education programs designed to benefit the residents of Nevada County. We provide these services by offering child, adult and senior safety and injury prevention education throughout our community. Below are some of the many ways that the Nevada County Consolidated Fire Department is committed to the safety of our citizens.

Elementary Programs

Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd Grades: Each class within Grass Valley is offered a 30 minute presentation on fire and accident prevention. The presentations are followed by an Engine visit from one of our stations. The themes of this presentation are:

  • Matches and Lighters are tools and not toys
  • Have a home fire escape plan and practice it
  • Know 2 ways out of each room
  • Crawl low and go to avoid smoke
  • Get out and stay out
  • Have a safe meeting place
  • If your clothes were on fire......stop, drop and roll
  • In case of an emergency.....dial 911

Grades 3rd and up: The program can be modified to meet the needs of the requesting class or group. Talks can be given on topics such as Disaster Planning, Career Planning, River Safety, and Drinking and Driving to name a few. Contact us to talk with a Public Education Officer with your ideas.

Senior Programs:

Vial of Life: The Vial of Life Program provides potentially life saving information to emergency responders. Emergencies are unplanned events. The key element in maximizing your contact with medical personnel during an emergency is to be prepared. Part of being prepared in an emergency is to assure that your medical history, including medications, illnesses and allergies to medications are readily available so emergency responders can treat your needs. This program was conceived to assist our Firefighters with a crucial history information document that will speak for you if you are unable to communicate. Call us for more information on Vial of Life.

Fire/Accident Prevention: The Public Education Specialist is available to speak with any senior group about fire safety and accident prevention. Contact us to schedule an appointment for your group.

Community Events:

Nevada County Consolidated Fire Department participate in many community events that are of a health and safety nature. The event must have an educational aspect. Our personnel are not available for grand openings or other marketing events (even if these events have a safety theme). A request for fire personnel/apparatus must be made with a minimum of a two week notice. Requests can be made by calling 530-273-0586.

The Fire Department participates in many annual events within Grass Valley. A partial list of these events include:

  • National Fire Prevention Week
  • Nevada  County Fair
  • Kids Safe Festival
  • Day of The Young Child
  • Every 15 Minutes
  • 4th of July Parade
  • Sober Grad Night
  • Child Passenger Safety Week

Tour groups can expect an approximate 30 minute tour of the fire station. Tours are given by the firefighters on duty and a fire or accident prevention message is always delivered.
